Surfing & solo-traveling in Morocco
When it's winter in Belgium, I loved to escape to Tamraght it’s a very chill town Morocco. You can surf there all year round, but the best months are from November until March. In the summer, it can be super warm & quite flat. When I go, it's more to relax, surf, read, reconnect, doing yoga, enjoy the good weather and amazing food, there is not much else to do around.
Accommodation
The surf areas are located 45 minutes from Agadir Airport. Flights can vary in cost, being either quite cheap or relatively expensive, depending on the time of year.
Because I travel most of the time solo, I always look for a place where I can meet people and feel safe. That's how I found 'Solid surf house', located in a small town Tamraght. Everything was included (pick up at the airport, equipment, food, ...), so I didn't have to worry about anything. Especially when you've never traveled solo before, I can really recommend this place. I felt at home right away, and the people are so friendly, and the food is absolutely amazing!
Waking up early, doing yoga and have one of the best breakfasts before surfing will become your daily routine. The surf house will take you to the best surf spot at the moment, so every morning it’s a surprise where to go to. Between two surf sessions, you can chill at the beach, have lunch and enjoy some local mint tea or snacks. For the more advanced surfers who like to go by themselves, you can walk down the hill from the house to go to 'Banana beach' or 'Devil’s Rock'.

Surfing in Morocco
Morocco has a 1,835 kilometers long coastline with ideal surfing conditions for every level. Taghazout offers all kinds of waves, from gentle beginner waves to heavy reef breaks for more advanced surfers. The best swells hit the region between November and March. The best surfing spots in Taghazout are: Anchor Point, Panorama, banana beach, Devils Rock, Crocodile, K17, Hash Point, Mystery Point, La Source and Anza. Water temperatures hover between 16 and 23°C (61-73°F), so you'll need a wetsuit to surf in Morocco.
Things to do besides surfing
When the waves are too flat, you can always sandboard in the Sahara. If the waves are too big for you, go watch the pros at Anchor Point! You always find something to do; otherwise, relax, read, do yoga, get a tan, drink a beer & watch the sunset or check TripAdvisor for some day trips to Paradise Valley, the souk, massages...
Close to the hoste there is a Western bar I really like called 'Let’s be'. It’s focused on healthy food, making it a good place for vegetarians. About 15 minutes from Tamraght, you have Taghazout, It’s a very nice town with different restaurants located at the beach!
If you’re lucky the Surfschool takes you to Emsouane. It’s a small fishing village and is known for his right handed that breaks over 600m long! It’s a nice get away place where you can eat good fish as wel.
Hesitation to travel solo to Morocco as a woman?
A friend of mine that I met during solo traveling recently started hosting a retreat that introduces you to like-minded ladies, introduces you to the world of surfing, the amazing Moroccan culture, and of course the world of solo traveling. She will help you take the first steps of solo traveling and make unforgettable memories and friends – yes, for life, because the surf community is so small. So, if you're ready to get out of your comfort zone and are ready for new adventures, go to the link below.
